7 Optimizing Tips for Digg

4 11 2009

Since being launched in 2004, Digg has been the leading news link ranking site, revolutionizing the way we share news. Currently, Digg has millions of active users, and is still growing. In this post, I am going to tell you how to get the best out of Digg.

  1. Install Digg Smart Buttons. This will allow you to submit any website you are visiting to Digg, or if it has already been submitted, you can Digg it.
  2. Install Digg Washer. If you’re bored of seeing articles submitted on Digg that you have no interest for, this will allow you to ‘hide words’, so that you can choose what you see.
  3. Think long and hard about your title – It needs to not only interest the reader enough for him/her to want to read it, but also needs to include some keywords that will get your article found; don’t forget, Google and other search engines rank social networking and bookmarking sites like Digg and Facebook very highly
  4. Post regularly. The more you post, the more people read, see your link and click through. Simple.
  5. Try writing a story completely unrelated to your industry. Make it interesting, possibly something you saw in the news, or anything that is going to interest the reader a lot more than hearing about news from your industry. This will mean that more people will read it, it will be Dugg a lot more, and you will possibly appear on the homepage. Still keep a link in this article though, and watch your traffic soar!
  6. In Digg, there is a feature where you can shout about your article. Your friends that you have connected with will see it, and this should cause more Diggs for your post.
  7. Get your article in the right category. If your post can go into two or three different categories, put it in the category with the least amount of posts already in it. This gives your post more chance of being seen.
